Sin and the Ten Commandments

Scripture Reading: Matthew 19:16-19
Memory Verse: Psalm 119:172
Introduction: The Ten Commandments define what sin is. So, let us see just how important they are.

1. How do we know what sin is? Romans 7:7abcde.
2. To what law was Paul referring? Romans 7:7.
Note: “Thou will not covet” is one of the Ten Commandments.
3. How does Paul describe the law? Romans 7:12, 14a.
4. What can the law do for us? Psalm 19:7.
5. What is the whole duty of man? Ecclesiastes 12:13.
6. What is the law of liberty? James 1:25, James 2:11.
7. Will we be judged by the law of liberty? v 12.
8. Should we violate any of the Ten Commandments? James 2:10.
9. What is necessary for eternal life? Revelation 22:14.

Conclusion

The Ten Commandments define what sin is. They were given as a whole law; so, every one of the ten must be kept. They are also necessary for those who want to enter through the gates into the new Jerusalem.
