The Master’s Sign
Scripture Reading: Matthew 12:38-40
Memory Verse: Jonah 1:17
Introduction: Jesus gave only one sign that He is the Messiah. Was His own prophecy fulfilled? If not, He is not the Saviour. If Jesus is not the Saviour, we are not saved, and we have no eternal future.
1. What did the Pharisees ask of Jesus? Matthew 12:38.
2. What was Jesus’s answer? v 39.
3. What was the sign of Jonas, which Jesus said would be the only
sign that would be given that He was the Messiah? v 40.
4. Did Jesus fulfill this sign which He gave the world that He was the
Christ?
Answer: Not according to the theory of a Friday crucifixion.
Conclusion: According to the Catholic theory of a Friday crucifixion and a Sunday morning resurrection, Jesus would have been, 1) buried at sunset, 2) spent Friday night in the grave, 3) and Saturday, 4) and Saturday night, and 5) would have risen at sunrise on Sunday morning. That is only one day and two nights, not three days and three nights. Obviously, this theory is flawed. However, there is a better explanation
of when Jesus was buried and when He was resurrected.
